Most Zinc Oxide that large ceramic suppliers carry is already calcined.
The reason for calcining the raw zinc oxide is to get rid of the
chemical water and to help with the shrinkage of raw zinc oxide. Hi
Zinc glazes will crawl if calcined zinc isn't used.

I spoke with Jim Lunz at Seattle Pottery Supply in Seattle and tried to
order calcined zinc oxide. He said the only zinc oxide he carries is
already calcined. SPS is fast with regard to getting orders shipped out
the day it is ordered if the order is placed before 12 noon.
