Try to find a copy of American artist John La Farge's An Artists' Letters f=
rom Japan where he visited in 1886. Fresh eyes and not without humor.
Furthermore, I think some of the comments posted about Hamada, et al., are =
a good case in point of "the work of art judging us." The historical contex=
t was laid out in a nut shell by, Vince P, I believe. There's a huge body =
of critical writing and references to this era and influences out there for=
anyone who wishes to understand the importance of their contributions. Ca=
n't expunge it. Don't have to embrace it, but it does and will exist long a=
fter my and possibly your pots show up at yard sales rather than auction ho=
uses.
