Amy,
I had my first L&L kiln for about 20 years before I traded it in (for
a new L&L)--not because it was no longer working, but just because I
wanted a new kiln. Someone else is still using that kiln, which is now
30 years old.
I would get the kiln; there should be spare parts for it in the
market--it's not THAT old, especially for an L&L. If you're really
worried, call up L&L and see if there are spare parts for when you'll
need them in the future, or if other parts can be substituted.

Though I have owned (and still own) L&L kilns, both programmable and manual=
,
I never owned a "B" model. Based on my experience with their products, I
have found them reliable and easy to work on. The kiln may be manual or
could be one of their first programmable kilns. Good condition and price
sounds like a good deal. Make sure you have the electrical capacity before
buying.
Here's the link to the instruction manual:

This will provide electric needs for you.

I second this recommendation - I have an L&L kiln from 1984 that *cough*
needs work *cough*, and L&L's tech support (Rob Battey) has been very
helpful. Most parts for kilns are either interchangeable, and quite a few
are substitute-able. There's also a comprehensive parts listing at L&L's we=
b
site.
I say go for it! :)

The only issue I know of is that (IIRC) the 239
only came in 2 1/2 inch brick. Of course, with
a programmable controller you may find that you
can get results identical to those with a thicker-
brick kiln out of a 2 1/2 inch kiln ...
