I also have had poor results from Seattle Filmworks. Colors are way off
and I also have had cropping problems with slides and the pictures on
disk. Each time I have used their service, the return time gets worse.
The idea they have is good, but poor quality is going to kill them.
I have enjoyed reading about the results from digital cameras because I
want to purchase one for myself. Any more info from others results
would be appreciated.

I bought a Sony Digital Mavica a month ago. Street price is $700 for the
model I bought. It has a macro lens and 10x telephoto. The neat thing about
it is that it stores the images as JPEG files on an ordinary diskette that
can be read on a PC. The resolution is 640X480, and you have a choice of 256
colors or 16.7 million colors ("true color"). There's also a model for $500
that has a fixed-focus lens and fewer features.
The only problem I've had with it is that the built-in flash is a little too
bright. If you take a flash picture closer than 8 feet, everything is washed
out. But, I have experimented a little with partially blocking the flash
with a finger, and that seems to help a lot. When I have time, I will try to
attach some kind of material in front of the flash to dim it a little or
disperse it better. It does take pretty decent indoor pictures without the
flash, though, so this is not as bad a problem as it may seem.
I've been happy with it. As someone pointed out in a previous message, the
resolution you need for web pages is only 72 dots per inch. It's great for
that. I wouldn't attempt to make slides for a show with it, though.
If anyone wants more information about this camera, I'll be happy to answer
questions.
