Dear Logan,
Kyanite is regard as a precious gemstone if it is transparent, brightly
coloured and is free from flaws or inclusions. It is mentioned in Van
Nostrands Catalog of Gems with the rough uncut stone having, in 1968,
values from 20 cents to two dollars fifty per gram with facet cut stones
being worth five to fifty dollars per carat which would be AAA quality. As
with all gemstones value is governed by colour, clarity, carat weight and
cut.
Refractory and gemstone, identical chemistry ! ! Five carats to the gram !
!
This is probably sourced in Afghanistan
I can source facetted Kyanite, small stones say 2 mm, mixed shapes, AA
quality for $3.00 per carat.
