Hi All,
I have been using indigenous clays for wood firing and reduction cooling
and would like to round out my firings with a good, smooth, dark burning
commercial clay.
Does anyone out there know of a commercial body that flashes well, meets
the above criteria, and does well in moderate reduction cooling/down firin=
g?
Thanks,
Bruce Bowers

Bruce: Do you mean in a plastic bag premade or commercially mined. the
reduction cool body I used at USU was Lizzella Fireclay 50, Holmes
fireclay 50, 20% coarse sand and 10% fine sand. Tuff as bloody nails.
The Holmes fireclay is from Ohio I think and the particle size varies
from 300 mesh to cigarette butt size. Not a clay for the weak at
heart.
A bad clay takes 7 years to learn to throw and a good clay takes a life tim=
