I was in Edgefield, SC on business and stopped at Old Edgefield Pottery. Qu=
ite a place- they had an awesome collection of pots and fragments from all =
over the South, as well as excavated kiln bricks and local materials. They =
do alkaline glazed repros of local pots, are supported partially by the his=
torical society, and are great to talk to about history and methods.
The local Potter, Steve Ferrell showed me a reproduction that was signed by=
50 Cent (yes, the hip hop star). Turns out that Fitty's several great gran=
dma was a slave in a local house and he was in town shooting a movie. He wa=
s, according to Steve- a pretty good guy, and it was just sort of neat to t=
hink about the widely disparate connections coming together in rural South =
Carolina.
Here's a link to a cell pic that I took of Steve with the 50 Cent signed po=
t, and the original from which it was made: http://tinyurl.com/36cy6bu
Nothing important and no questions, just interesting (IMO) pottery stuff.
