I have come across a fake ash glaze that I want to try=3D2C but have notice=

some pinholing with this glaze in some examples of pictures. Some folks ar=

e having to refire to get rid of pinholes. I was wondering if I replaced t=
=3D
he whiting with wollastonite it would smooth the fake ash glaze out enough =
=3D
to get rid of the pinholes. I was reading in an old book where whiting can=
=3D
be gasy that's why I want to try the wollastonite. I know that wollastoni=
=3D
te adds more silicia.

Base Glase is
=3D20
Strontium 4%
Whiting 12%
RedArt 24%
=3D20
Want to change to
Strontium 4%
Wollastonite 12%
RedArt 24%
=3D20

I'll bet if you swap the
strontium for barium (in the proper proportion) your problem will go
away. Just my opinion.

Hi Randy,

Could be the Red Art that is causing that - the CO2 from whiting
leaves between 800C and 900C.

I just remembered - Strontium carb comes apart much closer to cone 6 -
that might be the problem.

If you want to try a frit version I'll whip up a couple for you.

, with similar results, and have essentially stopped using it. I'd like to =

I concur with Ron that the strontium is the likely culprit. Every
cone 6 glaze that I have ever tried with strontium has pinholed badly,
some only at times, and some constantly. I'll bet if you swap the
strontium for barium (in the proper proportion) your problem will go
away. Just my opinion.
