The Dynamic Art Market vs. the Isolated Contemporary Ceramic
In China =3D2C there are not many art galleries able to sign a contract wit=
h =3D
artists in long-term relationships and act as the agent between the artists=
=3D
and art collectors. But over the past decade=3D2C the art auction companie=
s =3D
have played the most important role in the art market instead. The selling =
=3D
prices in the auctions usually become the pricing ruler of the art market. =
=3D
There are not many art buyers who really enjoy the artworks. Most of them r=
=3D
egard the artworks as part of their investment. It is just the same as thei=
=3D
r purchase of stocks=3D2C or real estate. Usually=3D2C the patrons are rich=
bus=3D
inessmen in real estate=3D2C banks=3D2C high-tech companies=3D2C etc.

The Art Market of Contemporary Ceramics in China
Due to the high education facility expanding in China over the last decade=
=3D
=3D2C there are hundreds of thousands of new graduates from ceramic art rel=
at=3D
ed majors every year. There are many ceramic art exhibitions in the ceramic=
=3D
production areas of China and the audience of the art shows that most of i=
=3D
t comes from the ceramic communities. Not many contemporary ceramic works c=
=3D
an actually be sold. Contemporary ceramic art doesn=3D92t draw much attenti=
on=3D
from the rich art collectors. The Chinese art market is one of the most dy=
=3D
namic art markets in the world today=3D2C but the prices of contemporary ce=
ra=3D
mic are far below the average prices in the art market. The contemporary ce=
=3D
ramic is still virgin soil in the art market in China . Many contemporary c=
=3D
eramic artists have been experiencing financial struggles.=3D20

Lack of Critic=3D2C Contemporary Ceramic has been Isolated from the Mainstr=
ea=3D
m of Art
This is the situation in China : the traditional ceramic art has been roote=
=3D
d very deeply in Chinese culture=3D2C contemporary ceramic art is just like=
a=3D
newborn baby that can hardly compete with the strong tradition of Chinese =
=3D
ceramic culture. Because of the lack of contemporary clay art critics who w=
=3D
ork in between the clay artists and art society=3D2C the contemporary ceram=
ic=3D
community has been isolated from the mainstream of art society. I believe =
=3D
if the contemporary ceramic critic worked well for fostering the society an=
=3D
d the art market=3D2C the situation will change soon due to the new generat=
io=3D
n of art patrons formed. The new generation is growing up with computer key=
=3D
boards=3D2C the internet=3D2C fast food and the popular culture of the worl=
d wh=3D
o will become the major support of contemporary art. =3D20

Chinese vase sold at auction for 43 million pounds
An 18th century Chinese vase has become one of the most expensive items eve=
=3D
r sold in an auction after it was snapped up by a Chinese buyer for 43 mill=
=3D
ion pounds. This extraordinary price - more than forty times the sum it was=
=3D
expected to fetch - is a world record at auction for a piece of Chinese Ar=
=3D
t=3D2C and quite a windfall for the mother and son who found the vase on a =
bo=3D
okcase as they cleared out the home of a dead relative in the London suburb=

of Pinner.
