I echo those sentiments which promote solid "can do" skills in all phases o=
f our lives. Another route towards understanding your craft, take a class i=
n Small Business start-up planning this winter. You will have to come to gr=
ips with costing/production/communicating your ideas. You will create the b=
reak down of costs/units of work/your labor. This exercise raises the big R=
eality Check questions pertaining to why you think you should persist. If y=
ou're still in the workshop at the end of the process, you've got something=
to say, or you're delusional. :)

I've still got my original Whole Earth Catalogue and The WEC Supplement. DI=
Y how tos have acknowlegedly moved on, but there's a lot of good advice and=
ways to cope in those dinosaurs from the 70s. In closing, I recently share=
d on FB the fact that I'd just checked out a library book on "The Secret Po=
wer of Blogging, How to Promote and Market Your Business, Organization or C=
ause with Free Blogs". After a sort of epithany, I went to Google a/c and c=
ancelled my blog. Has anyone else found themselves just a bit puzzled with =
blogging and Why? And yes I geddit, but.... Had a response from Friend that=
it helps them explain their work because every picture tells a story sort =
of thing. Okaaaay. Also a couple of responses which echoed my actions. I li=
ke this forum because I know there are many serious and solid opinions with=
good advice in here which I respect. "Out there" just seemed a bit like sp=
itting into the wind.

Hi Dinah,

I have to admit to being among those who are totally astounded by the vast =
=3D
number of people who MUST rush to the computer and share the news with the =
=3D
world each time they have a bowel movement.=3D20

First of all, if I am to accomplish any amount of clay work, along with =3D
keeping house and home together - there is a very limited amount of time =
=3D
that I can devote to computer use. Computers, like friends who drop by =3D
unexpected, are what I call, =3D22time stealers=3D22. I really don't mind =
=3D
friends stopping by the studio, the coffee pot is always hot, but they all =
=3D
are sure that you really are not doing anything real important, after all, =
=3D
you're just =3D22making=3D22 art.=3D20

Then there are the phone calls from ad agencies who can turn your one =3D
man/woman studio into a 200 person factory in 30 days with no more work on =
=3D
your part - just send them a check that would pay the national debt and =3D
they'll do the rest. These are slightly more worthless than credit card =3D
processing companies. Time stealers, every one of them.=3D20

Even if you just hang up on them, your train of thought has been =3D
interrupted, you've had to stop the wheel and your rhythm is broken, and =
=3D
you may or may not get back to where you were. If you can get back to =3D
where you were - you will still have lost a lot of time - time stolen from =
=3D
you.

Definitely not a time stealer, but a object the REQUIRES time (rightfully =
=3D
so) is my sweet, loving wife, who insists that I MUST kiss her good =3D
morning AND kiss her goodnight. On occasion, it is more than nice if we =3D
get together for some other shared activities as the day goes by.

When I finally do get to the computer for some quality time (20-30 minutes =
=3D
a day is tops as a rule), I am very selective about what I search for. I =
=3D
want to read Clayart posts, first posts from friends who I have found to =
=3D
be profoundly wise, informative, or fun. Examples of these types (but not =
=3D
limited to them) are Mel, RR, Vince and Lili with a couple Davids, Johns =
=3D
and Steves for good measure. I check out Ceramic Arts Daily and few other =
=3D
things but only really read the things I need.

These all share one common trait beyond the specific information they =3D
share with us - they are not long winded=3D21 Give me the point and move on=
=3D
- I like that=3D21 NOT time stealers. They understand how valuable time is =
=3D
if you're a maker. No vicarious computer life for them or for those of us =
=3D
who use their hands for more than a keyboard.=3D20

I'd like to say that there may be a correlation between the amount of =3D
keystrokes a person makes and the amount of work they get done but any =3D
guess would be just that a guess - but it just might have some basis in =3D
truth..... So I guess I better quit while I have some honor. LOL

Best Wishes,
Larry Kruzan
