i have an 8 inch square piece of M board/kaowool half inch thick,
on top of my kiln.
when kids come to my studio i use my bernzomatic
torch and get that red hot on one side, then
have them touch the back.
no heat.
i tell them that is how the space shuttle works it out.
they get really big eyes.
mom's do too. and, often, dad's pee their pants.
wowowwoooo, is that impressive.

When I was at San Jose State somebody came in with a big box of
"2nds" of the actual tiles being made for the then being built space
shuttle. So I got a whole bunch of them. They are very much like
kaoboard but denser.
