I recently learned about St. Spyridon, the patron saint of potters, and
today, Dec. 14, is his feast day.
This from Wikipedia:
He reportedly converted a pagan philosopher to Christianity by using a
potsherd to illustrate how one single entity (a piece of pottery) could be
composed of three unique entities (fire, water and clay); a metaphor for
the Christian doctrine of the Trinity.
As soon as Spyridon finished speaking, the shard is said to have
miraculously burst into flame, water dripped on the ground, and only
dust remained in his hand.

He should have fired his kiln more slowly at the beginning to avoid
this type of explosion. I'm guessing he was an old-school potter who
didn't have a kiln where he could program his ramps and holds.

That's precisely what happened in my last glaze firing! I assumed it
was me programming the kiln controller improperly, or a bad batch of
clay from my supplier. I was going to ask about the mishap here, but
was too embarrassed. Now, without my even having to ask, someone has
solved my problem. ClayArt is great!
Happy whatever you celebrate!

There's already a St James - don't crowd the stage youngster. (BG)
