liner glazes, theory

for many a liner glaze just means a glossy
white interior glaze. why would you put a blue matt
glaze inside a casserole? any pot that is used for cooking
or baking will be better off with a nice clear, shiny white glaze inside.
(if you want color, cover it with a clear gloss glaze.)

it is like the theory of white inside mugs.
coffee is dark brown....how do you know when it is
full in a temmoku lined mug? (i know, you can still see.)
but, it is the ease of filling. practical.

in 2011 we should know how to make basic food safe
glazes. any crackle free, full melt white with gloss
should be fine for any pot that needs a food liner.

this post is not about rules, glaze law. it is a
practical assessment of what we do with food
carrying pots.

it is also true with storage jars. black interiors
make it hard to see the item stored. gloss white
works much better. `who left those last two oreo cookies
in the black jar?` no one saw them down there.
(of course, if you are making a storage jar for a specific item
like flour...well black would work fine...you are the designer.)

i painted the inside of my mailbox gloss black and now
i do not leave mail in the box, lost in the back. (two minutes with
a spray paint can.)
practical.

so much of what we do as designers is never thought about
by our customers. they just know they like what we make.
those touches of practical design plants in the minds of your
customers and they come back for more.

it is like how i put on a parka with gloves in the pocket to
fetch the paper at 5 a.m. one slip on the ice and i would be
there, alone..freezing. dead in twenty minutes. `minnetonka man found dea=
d
frozen in his underwear and slippers.`
god, minnesota people love polar fleece. three layers. global colding
is on the way.

I am not sure if your 'global colding' remark was tongue in cheek or not.=
