Hi Barbara=3D2C I'm sending this to you off list as well. Fire manuall=
y =3D
for now. I know it is tedious baby sitting but Christmas is soon!!!
=3D20
You did not mention if your service guy checked for malfunction of the com=
=3D
puter itself. =3D20
=3D20
Stay tuned. I'm sure the good folks of Clayart are already sending you the =
=3D
info you need so I won't ...... The calvary rides!!!
=3D20
I have questions in my mind about the service you are getting from the kiln=
=3D
repair person. Some folks are just parts replacers. Some are hacks. Re=
=3D
placing elements made a good day for him. Did he first run a diagnostic o=
=3D
n the components of the whole system? Did he test the elements before he y=
=3D
anked them out? Do you still have the old ones? Why did he need to com=
=3D
e back another time to replace the thermocouple? That should have been addr=
=3D
essed at the first!!!
Educate and inform yourself. Even if you always rely on a Tech to do the w=
=3D
ork it is wise to know and not have to take anyone's word for it.
=3D20
Whether it is kilns or plumbing the basic concepts are not complicated to u=
=3D
nderstand=3D2C a bit morsi to actually do the work but certainly not outsid=
e =3D
your scope.

Barbara --

First, don't get upset. Odds are the problem is simple
and readily cured.

Second, fire with cones for any last firing you need
for the year. Don't trust the computer to turn off the
kiln while the cone slumps beyond where it should be --
position it right near a peep with a clear shot across
the kiln to an element, and when you're getting close
check every 10 minutes to see movement as it starts to
bend -- turn off the kiln (or fire down) at the 'perfect'
point.

Third, contact your manufacturer -- the problem you
have is that the controller is reading a new thermocouple,
and it's not reading identically to your old thermocouple.
(This is rather common, I find.) In your case, it's=3D20
'reporting' a lower temperature than you have inside the
kiln. The solution is to reset the offset on some=3D20
controllers (I am not conversant with all controllers).

It may take two firings to get the controller back
within range, but from that point on it's smooth sailing
(in my experience) for a few hundred firings.

Best wishes -- and make sure you get enough sleep.

Barbara, is your new thermocouple a Type-K or Type-S? (Your Barlett
controller does not accept the Type-S.)

How far does the thermocouple extend into the firing chamber?

What color is the wire that connects the thermocouple to the controller?

Is the temperature display erratic or steady?

Sincerely,

By which, I take it, that you're not a believer and that the event is
a "fiction!"

Confusing Calvary and cavalry is a fairly common mistake. But your
spelling of crucifixion is a new one to me!
