Just recently aquired a Harvey Littleton Treadle Wheel and posted a
short anecdote on Coulee Region Art Blog. Would love some info about
Lttleton or the wheel if you have any to share.

I have been to Harvey's house at an NCECA in Madison about 1971. He is =3D
recognized as the father of studio glass blowing from around the 1960s =3D
in Madison WI.
He taught at U of W Madison for many years. My glass teacher, Bill =3D
Boysen, was his student. Audery Handler was also his student among many =3D
others.

I would like to add a little to Harvey's history in my life as well. He =3D
was
my first advanced teacher at the Toledo Museum School of Art night =3D
classes.
This was his first job when he finished at Cranbrook. He was =3D
instrumental in
urging me to apply for study at Cranbrook. This changed my life and =3D
secured
my role in my goal to become a potter. I was also given a scholarship to
Cranbrook most likely through his help.=3D20

When the early studies of studio glass blowing were offered again at the
Toledo Museum, I studied for a year with Fritz Dreisbach, one of his
students. He and Dominic Labino were instrumental in this new studio =3D
glass
movement. He was also instrumental in starting the Ann Arbor Potters =3D
Guild
and then helped the Toledo Potters Guild begin with a core of potters in =
=3D
the
area. Edith Franklin was one of the founders and I was invited to join a
year or so after when I returned to the Toledo area.=3D20

Those days were heady in excitement over all the activity and interest =3D
in
both pottery and glass. If each of you can remember back in your very
beginning years of exploring pottery making, then just imagine how we =3D
felt
in those early years, with just a smattering of teaching institutions =3D
and
few books for reference. So many of those early potters have taken =3D
pottery
and glass to new heights in the art world. There are still struggles and
there will be new opportunities for creativity in the future. I feel =3D
Clayart
is one of those forums that will put the information out there to help =3D
us
all grow, no matter how long we have been making pots. Harvey has played =
=3D
a
defining role in this movement.=3D20

Thanks for listening.
