This tribal community of more than 600 potters lives in the flood plain
of Nepal's Rapti River. The Tharu people live in long, thatched houses
with clay walls, making and selling simple but sophisticated pots and
bowls.
Tharu potters demonstrate clay preparation, throwing, beating pots,
terra sigillata preparation, decorating, kiln construction and
firing. You have about one week to make and fire clay objects. You may
also explore nearby villages, visit holy men in the jungle, hike, and
see Tharu dancing.
