I'm writing a short note as my first post to ClayArt. I'm told that this is=
=3D
the first time a sitting President of NCECA has posted on ClayArt. I'll ta=
=3D
ke Mel's word on that, but in short, I'm happy to be here writing this. I h=
=3D
ave long thought that I should join ClayArt. finally here I am.
As Mel has previously posted ClayArt and NCECA are investigating the possib=
=3D
ilities of becoming affiliated organizations. To this end, Mel and I had a =
=3D
meeting over lunch today. (As it happens we live only 20 minutes from each =
=3D
other. - Who knew?)
In our meeting we did almost no business, but rather we simply met over tea=
=3D
and a sandwich and talked about life, ceramics, education, communication, =
=3D
integrity and so much more. We immediately hit it off as fellow artists, ed=
=3D
ucators and humans. We shared many connecting points. It was a long and ple=
=3D
asurable meeting for the both of us, I think.
I was reminded of the book, "Three Cups of Tea", (which I recommend uncondi=
=3D
tionally). It is a compelling story..., but the extraordinary American's gr=
=3D
eat learning in the book was that before anything of substance can be start=
=3D
ed in Afghanistan, first trust must be gained over three cups of tea. I sha=
=3D
red Mel's special sweet creamed tea today and much trust was built between =
=3D
us. I felt that this has laid the groundwork for our two organizations to m=
=3D
ove forward in positive and supportive ways.
There is much to discuss and agree upon before we might achieve an official=
=3D
affiliation, but our shared organizational values of education in the cera=
=3D
mics arts for all ages and practitioners is a firm foundation on which we c=
=3D
an build. In this climate, I firmly believe that arts organizations like ou=
=3D
rs have to support one another and work in a united way if we are to achiev=
=3D
e our goals and uphold the value of what we do in the world.
I look forward to more meetings with Mel and a group that he is putting tog=
=3D
ether for this endeavor at the conference, but I also suspect that he and I=
=3D
will meet many times as clay friends over the next weeks, months and years=
=3D
.

Welcome to Clayart.
It was wonderful news that you and Mel are working towards bringing NCECA
and Clayart together. It should make for a great union.
I will be sorry to miss the first joint venture of Clayart and NCECA in
Tampa, but I look forward to being a part of this joint venture in years to
come.
As you found, Mel is a great person, and he has worked hard at making
Clayart what it is today.
All my best wishes for a wonderful and fruitful future for both
organizations.

Welcome Keith!
I, as member of Clayart, am very happy to have you with us.
I hope you might find time during the NCECA conference to come by the
Clayart room and participate in the workshops we will present.
I would also invite you to have your name added to the list of Clayart room
presenters and do a Q&A about your vision of the future between NCECA and
Clayart.
