Hi Kathleen=3D2C
I'm sure the harder you try right now the less success you will have. So t=
=3D
o take the pressure off make a back up plan.
When you are facing 11 determined and expectant=3D2C bright seven year olds=
y=3D
ou can't BS them=3D2C but with an honest reason for not doing the whistles =
to=3D
day and offering something else interesting and exciting you can redirect t=
=3D
heir interest.
=3D20
Today=3D2C now=3D2C take a long walk in the park or nature. Forget the wh=
istl=3D
es for this time=3D2C quiet your frustrated thoughts and let a back up plan=
c=3D
ome to you. Don't dismiss even a "stupid" idea. It may be just the stepp=
=3D
ing stone to real gold as you masticate and ruminate in the muse of your wa=
=3D
lk.
=3D20
Now with renewed confidence because you have a plan=3D2C go back and make s=
om=3D
e whistles. They will work now because it doesn't matter too much. The on=
=3D
ly thing I would remind=3D3B since you have no doubt read all the books an=
d =3D
have made them before is that a tapered stick has the built in angle potent=
=3D
ial to give you that air cutting (dividing) ramp that sets the air to vibra=
=3D
ting audibly.=3D20
=3D20
An aside: I have observed that structured and arbitrary projects like whis=
=3D
tles that work are more for the intrigue of the adults involved=3D2C just a=
s =3D
are many complicated toys that adults think are so cool while kids would ra=
=3D
ther play with sticks and mud if given the freedom and opportunity to do so=
=3D
. I'm dead sure that if given the chance=3D2C most of your seven year old=
s =3D
will quickly morph your hard won whistles=3D2C that work=3D2C into their fa=
vori=3D
te game or video character and be totally intrigued and exuberant in their =
=3D
own creative melee.
=3D20
This is not to knock your project=3D3B but to encourage you to relax and l=
et=3D
it rip and roll where it will. Have some fun too!!! Who knows!!! In the=
=3D
exuberant and twitchy fingers of 7 year olds you will likely go nuts anywa=
=3D
y trying to keep all 11 whistles working even if you got them all to work i=
=3D
n the beginning.

Misneach=3D2C (go forward with courage)

hello musical clay folks=3D2C
I have a class of 11 mostly 7 year olds next week and we are to make
whistles. I have made many many whistles in my time and so I thought to get
out the books and the clay and practice so I can be sure of my whistle
skills. With 11 7 year olds "crying" but mine does not work I will have to
work fast and well. BUT when I got out my equipment and all the books I
could only make about 3 whistles work and then the next ones I tried would
not sing. I mean I worked for an hour=3D2C reading the books going back and
trying again and again. Looking up directions on the internet and trying
again. My ability to make a whistle has gone silent. Does anyone out there
have some suggestions on how to get my tune back working before next
thursday? Perhaps the video from Moniot's whistle book? Thanks so much for
your help.
Kathleen
