Alright these Laguna Dry Mix Glazes are driving me to drink. Out of the 5
buckets, 2 appear fine. I added 1% bentonite to the blue and 2% bentonite
to the black and they seem to be perfect but my green and brown glazes are =
a
mess.
Pictures are worth a thousand words so I posted the photos on my website.
The green glaze is running off the pots when used with other glazes. On it=
s
own it has some potential. Still a little runny and some bubbles.
You can see the photos of my green glazes here:

My brown glaze is even more bubbly but maybe it is just too thick??

Any suggestions on either glaze would be greatly appreciated. More
bentonite? More water???? My apologize for password protecting it but I
didn't want to world to see my dilemma.

Lisa

Dear Lisa,
In addition to Lili's and John B's posts...
I currently use Laguna cone 5 dry glazes exclusively and though I =3D
haven't read any glaze books, I do follow the instructions of the wise =3D
ones on this list and test test test (every glaze on every clay body, =3D
every combination of my glazes over and under every other glaze...lots =3D
of test tiles!).
You haven't mentioned any names of the glazes you're using, just their =3D
basic colors ("brown" or "green") which makes it difficult for me to =3D
give specific advice. I had a look at the "brown" disaster page and I =3D
wonder if it's Laguna's "Cappuccino" (MS=3DE2=3D80=3D9157). That one =3D
particular glaze needed the most testing, and it turned out that it =3D
needed to be mixed much thinner than the other Laguna glazes I use =3D
(measured with a home-made drinking-straw hydrometer). It also needed =3D
to be applied thinner as well (as John mentioned).
Once tested, you can use it to wonderful effect in combination with =3D
other glazes, as you can see in your "funky potential" image.
By the way, in the past I have tested and used over 14 different Laguna =3D
glazes, and the only ones that ever hard-panned on me were two different =
=3D
clears, due to the lack of clay in them.
Hope this helps on your quest.
