In this hands-on workshop, Gay Smith and Suze Lindsay will present a
variety of techniques and approaches to problem solving that they use to
develop continuity between pottery forms and surfaces.

Participants will explore ideas and issues important to taking their
work to the next level. Topics that will be covered include exercises on
how to generate ideas, establishing a personal point of view about
making pots, focus on how to "finish" the pots including surface
enhancement, depth in glaze application, layering glazes, slips, texture
and kiln firings. Sketching, writing exercises, historical source
materials and slides will also be addressed.=3D20

Suze and Gay will demonstrate techniques including manipulating the form
and surfaces of soft clay, fluting, faceting and impressing, and
leather-hard surface decoration with slips.

By defining our personal passions and aesthetics, we strengthen our
work.

*Workshop participants should plan to participate in group discussions,
bring a sketch book, tools and a bag lunch.

Raku Workshops

Get fired up (!) for a great time and learn all aspects of the Raku
Firing process at the Workhouse Ceramics Studio. Workshops will be led
by one of the Workhouse Ceramics Resident Artists and/or Instructors.
Requirements: 7-9 pieces(min.) of pre-fired Bisque ware. Participant
must wear proper clothing consisting of long sleeves, long pants, closed
toed shoes and long hair tied back.=3D20

Cost: 90.00 Non-members/students

Surface It! Workshops

These workshops are for anyone 16 years of age or older interested in
learning various techniques; the centuries old China Painting technique,
use of Ceramic Over-glazes, slip decorating, brush making, ceramic image
transfer or use of non-traditional surfacing materials on clay. All
skill levels of wheel throwers, hand-builders, sculptors, painters or
china painters are welcomed. Classes limited to 12. China Paints,
over-glazes, tiles (max. 2 for china painting), nontraditional
materials, brushes (all except brush making workshop) for use during
workshop will be provided and any firing(s) are included in the fee.
Fired Pieces will usually be ready for pick-up 4 days after workshop.

Cost: $75.00

In this two day workshop Kurt will cover the history of China Painting,
where it started, how it was developed and what has happened to it over
the years. The main focus of his two days here will be on process,
where the materials come from, which ones are the best ones to use and
how it all fits together to end up with a better understanding of the
process and the ability to use the material and technique with
confidence. =3D20

First day will be an introduction and demonstration on the technique of
China Painting. The history, how it is done and where the materials
come from..... Kurt will demonstrate his technique and include some
history, but primarily covering technique, material sources and how he
creates his beautiful works. The second day will be hands-on,
consisting of painting an object together from participants own personal
sources or any imagery they bring in for inspiration.

All materials-china paints, brushes, etc. will be supplied for the
participants. Students will need to come with a glaze fired piece to
paint on, either something they have made and glazed (white or clear if
porcelain) fired or if they choose, they could purchase a commercial
piece of porcelain from an online supplier such as Rynne China or Dallas
China. =3D20

*Workshop participants should plan to participate in group discussions
and also bring a bag lunch each day, photographs , sketchbook(s), books
on botany ,natural history, fashion magazines (for faces),bugs , shells,
etc. Participants may also bring 5 images (digital or slide) of their
work in any medium.=3D20

* Work completed will be fired and participants will be called to pick
up when ready.
