Hi List

I'm looking at buying an EnviroVent system for my Skutt 1027. Any tips for =
installation or use please? I want more flexibility in using the studio whi=
le firing which I now do overnight with exhaust fan on. But sometimes there=
's a deadline and more studio time makes a huge difference in keeping focus=
sed. Also, I can check on kiln progress without disturbed sleep. There's an=
accessory -- EnviroLink -- which assists in on/off in the Ramp/Hold segmen=
ts. Has anyone found this particularly useful. I suppose it will be excelle=
nt for crystalline glazes and involved down-firing schedules. I haven't che=
ck the Archives yet but thought I'd ask first.

Final question. I've been looking through some history of Japanese ceramics=
books and the wares created for the tea ceremony which have evolved under =
various tea masters' influences which in turn influenced kiln/pottery sites=
. Amongst these pieces is a recurring flower vase shape sometimes with smal=
l pierced lugs/handles for a rope sometimes a waisted section for suspendin=
g -- practices which have been variously described as such. I'm wondering i=
f someone can explain in a bit more detail the placing these flower contain=
ers in the tea ceremony space and where. I'm familiar with the small alcove=
area with a flower arangement in a container presented near floor level wi=
th a seasonal scroll on display behind. Many pix of tea rooms feature this =
area. But the hanging of vases is of interest. Any first hand knowledge?

Hi Dinah,

You want what ever kind attaches to the wall - not the kiln bottom.
You may also want to get one that has a two vent capability so when
one kiln is not being used you can switch it over to the other kiln.

Be careful where you put the outside venting - you don't want to have
any wind blowing into the exhaust and preventing the air flow out.

The flexible ducting will develop holes after time so testing at a spy
hole to see if the system is working is good practice - a flame held
at the open spyhole should just barely be drawn in.
