so....the tampa nceca

I arrived in Tampa late Tues. afternoon, went to hotel(Embassy Suites acr=
=3D
oss the street from the convention center with a great free breakfast eve=
=3D
ry day, my roommates were Kelly Savino and Jane Walker), checked in and w=
=3D
ent to a benefit dinner/pottery sale in St Petersburg at Lynn Merhige Gal=
=3D
lery as a guest of Cecilia Cunningham. I bought a cup from the pottery s=
=3D
ale and there was a tee shirt with NCECA and a picture of the cup I bough=
=3D
t and other pottery on it and I asked to buy one and Lynn gave me one.
Wednesday I did gallery touring in St Petersburg with Liz Delatore, marta=
=3D
matray and Jane Walker. Lots of great shows. My 2 favorites were the R=
=3D
ichard Notkin show at the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Potters Counci=
=3D
l show at the Nancy Marcoe Gallery. I bought a cup there. Wed evening w=
=3D
ent to the Opening ceremonies.
Thursday was a stormy day with hurricane warning and lots of rain so it w=
=3D
as a perfect day to stay at the convention center and go to the exhibitio=
=3D
n hall and see all the vendors(there were less vendors this year and not =
=3D
many free giveaways). I had promised to get some things for friends so w=
=3D
ent to Mud tools and got Bev a rib, went to Ceramics Monthly and got post=
=3D
ers for Jan and others. There was a booth selling Keraflex and Porcelain=
=3D
Canvas tiles. These tiles are what Robin Hopper is using to paint on an=
=3D
d he has a new dvd called "Inspiration and Interpretation" which shows 4=
=3D
decorating techniques and the last one is painting on porcelain canvas. =
=3D
I found the idea very exciting so I bought some of the tiles and plan to=
=3D
show the idea to my students.
Went to the Paul Soldner memorial, the NCECA business meeting and visited=
=3D
the clayart room and participated in the clayart cup swap. It is wonderf=
=3D
ul to have the clayart room at the convention center and I am hoping they=
=3D
will be able to make it happen next year also
Friday I went to a lecture on Iznik tiles of Turkey and then one on Conte=
=3D
mporary Cuban Ceramics by Peter Held (I went to Cuba on an art tour in 20=
=3D
00 so loved Peter's talk). Then discussion on low fire ceramic technique=
=3D
s (I teach a lowfire class for Seniors), then went to clay art room and h=
=3D
eard a great talk by Susan Fox Hirschmann on "Marketing from the seat of =
=3D
your pants". She had a great handout sheet she gave everyone.
Friday eve I was invited to a wonderful dinner party in a Thai restaurant=
=3D
by the Pottery Workshop group from China.
Saturday I went to emerging artists presentation, followed by the closing=
=3D
lecture by Robin Hopper. It was outstanding, he started it with a sing-=
=3D
along that was a pottery song, gave a great slide lecture and ended with=
=3D
another sing-along.
Went to 2nd NCECA business meeting and went to airport and caught a fligh=
=3D
t home.
I had a great time and am looking forward to Seattle.
