without question this program is a life
saver.
with writing books, articles and tons of clayart
archives on my computer...it is a god send.
i do keep two 80 gig external drives running with back-up
stuff. and many use a 8 gig thumb drive for backup,
but how often do we forget the most important
backups? often.
there are several very good back up programs out
there. mozie, and some others...and often you can
use the server at your isp to save maybe 5 gigs.
lots of options. but think how many gigs folks have
just with pix alone. daunting.
but, i had 105 gigs total on my big computer. that includes all my
secondary drives too. it all came back. every scrap.
and don't give me any of that mac's never break down crap.
just had a designer call me...she lost everything...years
of work, and a current job on her big mac.
if it has an electric plug, it will crash. one of the big
mac's at greatapes went down last month...all the cooling
fluid was on the floor. got hot and fried. but they have
industrial sized carbonite.
it is like saying my Mercedes never needs repair.
sure. like the jag i just dumped.
it was broken more than it was on the road.
many have no idea how many emails i get each month
that are titled...`my comp crashed, can you help
me mel?`
couple of suggestions:
print out all the instructions for clayart.
keep your codes with it.
make a code sheet on your computer with everything
you have codes for.
print it out, then delete it from your comp..(file it.)
check all the drivers in `managment`. print them out.
if you rebuild one of the hardest things to gather is
all the right drivers.
don't rely on any of those cleaning programs, they are not
worth a dime.
right click on your c drive icon in `my computer`.
click properties, then select `error checking` and it will
scan your comp on your next start up...check both boxes.
it will take like three hours to check everything...but will
be nice and clean when done. works ten times better
than those for pay programs.
it does take just a few more seconds a day to back up.
it pays a great deal later.

Mel,
You miss the whole point about macs. Of course they might break down,
but mac users don't resort to the nuclear option of reinstalling the
operating software as a regular maintenance function just to keep
their computers running.
I have 4 macs at my house and you have reinstalled the operating
software on your PC's way more times than I ever have because my total
amount of software reinstalls is zero.
I had severall PC's and used to have to do all the reinstall crap you
find yourself doing. Naturally my wife's would only fail when she
needed it most, right at the start of a new school year.
You aren't too old to learn new tricks.
