yes, bill has done gobs of research...his
section of `our` book is amazing.
at our farm we have a big old salt kiln.
we kick hell out of it.
spray, add rock salt dry, make packets.
we use every old shelf we have. stack it
full of sil carb shelves. get donated shelves.
when they melt, we get more old ones.
tim frederich has a source of shelves...he
will bring some to the farm. we trade with him.
if anyone is looking for a good buy on brick
or shelves..give him a shout.
good folks, helping potters.

he has put together a package for one
of our clayart friends that is building her
own kiln, in her back yard...and she is doing
it all alone, with her cancer ridden husband
sitting in a chair advising her. what courage.
she is a hero, for sure.
diana pancioli is adviser her on cone 6 reduction
glazes for her new kiln.
by phone and email i have been able to save
her gobs of money. creative ways to build,
construct and make do. she is packing gravel
for the base...she is building her own shelter.
tim got her a deal on brick and shelves, and she
is using 50 dollar weed burners...to cone 6
will be a breeze. she got bids of you know..
4000 bucks for burners, a shed for 8000.
they would be nice...but she does not have that
money...she will do it all for $5,000. hooray
for creative budgets in hard times.
and, as she matures as a self made potter, sells
some work, gets a mailing list, she can upgrade
things. one step at a time.
i am so damn proud of her. ( she will write her
story for the clay book website...she is keeping
great records of the process.)
