built one at the farm about twenty years ago.
dug the hole in the hill, put a kiln shelf over the top for
ease of loading.
buried it.
bricked the front...and had a hole in the top for
a chimney. i think i stuck a sewer tile in for the
stack.
two weed burners with propane. it went to cone six
real well. we threw in sticks and garbage too.
got about ten pots in there. really fun.
like a goofey raku kiln.
loads of fun.

old time kilns.
