A lot of us took Ian Currie's workshops or tried his method from reading=
=3D
his book or conversing with him via email or in person.
I thought maybe it would be a nice way to remember him ,as well as a grea=

t
way to share information, if we each,(those of us who have them), brought=
=3D
one or two grid tiles to NCECA. maybe we could have a little get together=
=3D
or
even put them out for people to see. it would be simple enough to list th=

fluxes and the firing temp. and i think it would be lovely as well as
informative.

Great idea. May I suggest that we take it a couple of steps further?
I came to meet Ian through Clayart in the early days when Joe and
Richard were moderating. A number of us had his first book and wanted
to do the experiments. I thought there might be a way to form groups
around the US in order to get the work done faster. Each group would
do one experiment, making enough tiles to send to the other groups.
Steve Branfman, who was selling the book, suggested that I contact Ian
for his help. As a result, the Clayart Currie group was started. We
had about 30 members in 5 or 6 cities in the US and Canada. Each group
sent unfired grids to the other groups for firing in our own kilns and
we discussed our results online. Not long after, Ian began coming to
the States for NCECA and workshop tours.
In Ian's memory and honor, I'd love to organize this again. This time
Revealing Glazes and Understanding Stoneware Glazes can be used and a
website can be set up to post results, and, of course we could meet at
NCECA.

Hi Rell;
I like the idea very much. Please sign me up. My studio mate are keen
and we both planned on going to Seattle next year. I have done Currie
Grid sessions with my London Potters glaze group and it was a great
learning experience.
I have tried to bring Ian to London as well as Brooklyn to do
workshops but it never materialized. It is hard to provide lodging in
urban areas.
When I first moved back to NYC and knew nothing about US materials,
that was how I developed all my glazes and learned about the materials
(i also used Glazemaster software to help me evaluate the grids
regarding stability)
I have an earthenware vellum glaze that I would like to rework to cone
6 without lead frit.
Thanks

Hi May,
Great!!
And sorry that I neglected to sign my name to my last post. I forgot
that my posts to Clayart don't come from my main email address any
more because I couldn't get my server to accept that Clayart wasn't
spam. So now I subscribe to Clayart through a gmail account and my
name doesn't show. My main address is rwballou@mac.com. I'll get mail
at either account.
