Thanks so much to potters who shared experience and ideas on list and off. =
John, I was so charmed by your robot tiles I posted the link to facebook, h=
ope that helps! The chickens and loons and bright stuff your kids make is j=
ust beyond charming. They are lucky to have you for a teacher!
Lili, that clear looks intriquing. I was told to purchase glaze, but I coun=
tered with this: let's purchase what we need to get started, and if we have=
fabulous results and the artists like it and the public buys it, then I'll=
mix up glazes in bulk to save the program money.
Among the good advice I got off list: special needs artists may especially =
appreciate WYSIWYG colors, as it's hard to let creativity flow with colors =
that don't resemble the final product... buy dry so you don't have to ship =
water... and other sent me links and images of clay projects that might tra=
nslate well to these projects.
I will blog the results and my experience, and send a link to clayart... th=
anks again for ideas, information and support.
Now comes that hard part: she wants me to write her with the price of my se=
rvices. My initial reaction is always to undercharge for my time, and I reg=
ret it in the long run... I have to figure this one out for myself. Hopeful=
ly gas won't go as high as predicted this summer!
Thanks again for the feedback and support. I promise to share results here!
Yours
Kelly in Ohio... with irons in too many fires. There's a 12 yard dumpster i=
n my driveway for spring cleaning of garage/studio/shed/flooded basement/ho=
op house and garden... while cleaning I find fobot parts, kiln carcasses,(m=
ini soda?) batik supplies, potential garden trellis materials. Jeff took ap=
art a bike to build a wind turbine,a nd there are three (3) trebuchets out =
there from past kid projects, plus a water bottle launcher.
The kids are worse than I am. My boys are of dating age and girls come over=
, so they have become newly proud of the impression the Savinos make as an =
eccentric and arty family... last night at dinner they were scheming garden=
sculptures, furniture for a campfire-ring in the back yard, and what we co=
uld do with faces if we plaster-casted everybody. I once made a bird house =
out of Jeff's face with an open mouth for the birds... but the hornets move=
d in instead, which is kinda creepy.

Oh, for commercial glazes. I've used Continental Clay's low fire
clear. I buy it dry. I've fired it up to cone 1 with no trouble.
