What I have found missing when doing workshops at Guilds across North
America is -EVALUATION. Yep, no one wants to offend. Everyone wants
to have a group hug and say to each other " aint't that pretty!". Many
guild members are lusting for an honest critique of their work. I
always lead the crit and encourage the group to pitch in. I think this
is what prevents Guild members from moving ahead. Yep, Grad school
crits can be brutal but ya go home to bed, toss and turn and get up
red eyed in the morning and say " I'll show those bastards". Those
that have a fifth gear give it and blow the doors off the critiques.
Giving an honest critique finds me looking at my own work and saying
to myself _hmmmmmmmmmmmm coulda, shoulda, woulda maybe this or maybe
that. All good stufff. Teach to learn is my motto.
Cheers,
tony
