Gay,
I enjoyed sharing a Tony workshop with a clayart cohort like you. Wish I ha=

Shiners weren't bad, were they?

So many options to consider now, huh? Spending time with a creative person
gets the juices flowing for sure. I'm setting myself some educational goals
as well. Tony is going to love it.

Talk about a really great workshop experience--I can talk about that! =3D
Last weekend I attended Tony Clennell's workshop in Castroville (30 =3D
miles west of San Antonio). It was a great workshop--Tony is a great =3D
teacher but more over an accomplished raconteur so you want to stay =3D
alert to catch all the nuisances of his presentation--don't want to miss =
=3D
a minute of it! And as he has mentioned, Tim and Gloria Kelly are =3D
generous and gracious hosts in their new pottery center, Castroville =3D
Pottery. Part of Tony's workshop was looking a pieces of the student's =3D
work and considering how those pieces might have been improved. Or what =
=3D
might be the next step in development of that work. It was such a =3D
wonderful experience getting to see the work through the eyes of the =3D
teacher. That was a workshop in itself. Then, back home before he =3D
left, he gave me 'assignments' to develop MY work. I have a check sheet =
=3D
to begin working on tomorrow: expanding some work I've done with =3D
variations on the theme; working on some glaze effects; and taking my =3D
slab work in a new direction. Whew, I have a demanding schedule ahead =3D
of me! But it is great because somehow, somewhere I had lost my way and =
=3D
really needed a kick start--and he gave me a good one!
The creme de la creme was getting to be with Tony for the before and =3D
after of the workshop. He is the sweetest guy and the most generous! =3D
We spent a morning touring the fabulous Asian ceramic collection at the =3D
San Antonio Museum of Art. Can you imagine, walking through all the =3D
great ceramics of the past at Tony's elbow as he analyzes and comments =3D
on each piece! That was a graduate course in itself. How do you thank =3D
a guy for such a great experience? I'm still trying to figure that one =3D
out!

Gay: You are sooo kind. How do I thank you for such fabulous hospitality? I
finished Brian Brett's Trauma Farm on the plane and I think you, Jim Bob an=
d
Chris would enjoy it so look out for some mail. I was thrilled to be part
of your amazingly interesting family. People that are actually well read on
a variety of things that interest me other than pots. Sometimes it can be
gruelling sitting up all day and night talking pots. We covered much much
more- economics, religion, demographics, factory farming, life and more
about life.
Remember to look up that Tarzan Goes to New York movie for Kenny and parts =
3
and 4 of The Dukes of Hazard that he is missing from his collection. Are yo=
u
forgetting something JImmie?
Hugs,
Tony

Yes, Taylor, juices flowing. But nothing like having a great teacher =3D
sit down with you and say, "do this, then this, and after that, this". I =
=3D
love it. Guess I'm born to be a student all my life! It is just what I =
=3D
needed just now.
Sorry you weren't with us at SAMA, that was a great experience. Wish =3D
the whole class could have been--but then it is too big. Perfect, one =3D
on one!
