Hello All,
My house has finally been sold after 2 plus years. I have a kick/electric
wheel, that has a very heavy flywheel that I am GIVING away, all you have t=
o
do is come and get it. However, when you come bring lots of muscle. The
wheel is located in central/eastern Ontario, Canada. I used it for many
years throwing pots, and then just used it without the motor for trimming,
perfect! Nice easy pace. Closing date is Aug.15th, so make up your minds
soon.
About Kirt. Mel, it is so hard to loose a close friend. One of the things
about getting older is just that. Not easy, ever. I can remember dragging
him onto the dance floor at one NCECA, him protesting and laughing at the
same time. . .might have been Denver. He was one of those quiet men, that
when he spoke you listened. He had a very rough time the past few years,
and I will be thinking of him when I use his mug.

How cool would that be to have Liz Willoughby's kick wheel! If I were
within 200 miles I'd make the trip in a heart beat. Someone better
take that Willoughby home or I'm going to be forced to drive 2000
miles in my wife's pickup.
Kick wheels are indeed fantastic trimming wheels, take it from a rank
beginner. If I had a ware cart full of pots to trim, that's how I'd
trim em.
Though I never had the pleasure of meeting Kurt, he was indeed a part
of the main. Glad the continent of ClayArt is remembering him.

Taylor,
Considering that I know how long that drive is, being brought up in the
Valley in Texas, I do wish you and your lovely wife would come up to Canad=
a
and see Ron and I, then you could just take the wheel and you would kill tw=
o
birds with one stone.
Saw your beautiful smoke fired pots on your flicker page, very nice. Nice
chickens too.
Thanks for the encouragement, and if I had the space, I would still love to
trim with that wheel.
I am embarrassed that I spelt Kurt's name wrong. . . .I was always calling
him Kirk! and he would just grin and not say a word.

Of course there is the approach taken by my wife's fellow treadle
sewing machine collectors - the pony express. Someone picks it up
from the first person, and it gets picked up by the next person going
in that general direction and handed off and so forth. Been part of a
couple of cross- country shipments that way. Should work for wheels
as well :) (Although I admit treadle sewing machines are a *bit*
smaller & lighter than kick wheels).
