borax-based raku glaze???

updated wed 20 jul 11

James Freeman on sat 16 jul 11

My nieces and nephew arrive tomorrow for "Camp Freeman". Last year
they made a bunch of clay treasures, most of which we Raku fired, and
had tons of smoky fun. They want to do it again this year, but
through sloth and procrastination I find myself devoid of Gerstley
Borate, which is the main ingredient in the glaze I used. I do have a
huge quantity of borax, or at least a form of it (sodium octoborate
tetrahydrate, if I recall correctly) left over from building my house
(sold as a log preservative, which I didn't use). Does anyone have
any tried and true Raku glaze recipe that employs borax rather than GB
that they would be willing to share? Thanks for any help you can
provide.

All the best.

Hey woof,

i was not even the one who send the text to Clayart!!!
And I can take pressure, I have been 40 years sitting between
big unions and big companies, when I say big, I mean large
companies hiring thousands of persons.
So, I can take care of myself and fight back...
