didymium glasses for looking in the peeps?

Didymium glasses are used for working glass in a flame. They are
designed to absorb the yellow orange flame you get from sodium
bearing glass, which is sort of blinding and obscures the work piece.
They really don't have much use for looking in a kiln.

For a hot kiln you need a lens that absorbs infared heat
wavelengths. There very little UV in a hot kiln. It is visible light
and infared.

For kilns you should use a gas welder's goggle. About a number 3 if
I remember correctly. Get one at any welders supply shop. Somebody
check me on this please.

I use goggles from the welding supply store. These are for cutting
with an oxy/acetylene torch and are great for looking in on cone 10.
They are not as dark as goggles/helmets for arc welding, which are
too dark.

Gina, green #3 safety glasses are less expensive than didymium and
filter the light inside a kiln. That is the type usually sold as kiln
safety glasses. Didymium glasses were designed for glass blowers.

You can buy green #3 glasses at Amazon.
