A student at the local college found a bucket of mystery glaze, used it, an=
d
loved it, but cannot find anyone who knows what it is. I have posted a
photo of some of his mugs bearing the mystery glaze on my Flickr page (
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamesfreemanstudio/). The photo is entitled
"Tall Mugs".

The mugs were fired to cone 10 reduction, and the mystery bucket was labele=
d
"JTR Matte", which of course means absolutely nothing. Does anyone
recognize this glaze? I am pretty sure the glaze was mixed up by an
undergrad several years ago from a recipe found online or in a book (he did
not develop his own glazes), but I have lost touch with him.

Failing anyone actually recognizing the glaze, any thoughts on reproducing
it? To me, it looks like a high calcium matte, probably based on neph sy
rather than feldspar, with maybe a touch of GB (guess based on runniness),
probably with a bunch of titanium and a toucht of cobalt, probably some
lithium (guess based on crystals, broken color, and counteracting the high
expansion of the neph sy), and probably no dolomite. These are just
guesses, so don't let them influence your own thoughts. Any help would be
appreciated.

All the best.
