UNI_ POTTER on fri 23 jan 98

There's really nothing better for me
to do to further myself as a potter
than to be making pottery. I'm looking
at my 1997 output and wondering where
the year went. I am sure those of
you that have non-clay, non-art full
time jobs have experienced this. It
kind of sickens me. There is a world
of opportunity out there, more
galleries, sales, shows, etc.
than I have work for. The more I work
the better I get and that opens up
even more for me. So due to the
lack of time, this is my last
contribution to Clayart.
I especially want to thank
Dan Wilson, Robert Yellin, and
C du Bee for their postings.
I won't be using the mailexcite
address; you can get me at:

Hello everyone,
Today i am officially signing off of Clayart & resigning from Euclids.
This list was one of the perks of my job. i have learnt alot about life from
the many wise men & women on this list ... i tried to resist the temptation
to use the delete key & read as much as i could ... this helped.
i may or may not continue to work in the industry ... undecided at the
moment.
For now i am a `stay at home dad` & will pursue a more creative lifestyle.
The new Euclids rep on the list will be Shannon O`Brian ... she is a
sweetheart who works very hard & is learning alot about the industry.
i plan on keeping the e-mail address kilns@home.com , in case anyone would
like to contact me.
Genuine thanks to all of you,
chris

Chris,
You and your wealth of knowledge will be missed. Good luck in all
you do and keep in touch.

Best regards,

`gd damn you...take me off clayart...nothing works`
of course they do not know what address they signed

mel, et al.,

In the Army, the paratroopers learn to hit the ground with a sort of roll to
help break the fall. There are five points of contact: 1) feet, 2) calves,
4) thighs, 5) buttocks, and 5) muscular portion of the back.

If someone was sorta loopy after a particularly heavy fall, or if he was
just a ditz, we accused him of having "cranial rectolitis"--having his head
jammed tight in his fourth point of contact.

Perhaps that may be a part of the problem. After all, clay IS slippery, and
some folks DO fall...

Hi:

I've been on Clayart pretty solidly, with only a few no mail periods, for
the last six years. I'll be signing off in a few days to concentrate on
some other stuff that I really have to get to. So, to my Clayart friends,
I'm saying "later" and it has been my great pleasure to be a part of this
group.

best regards, Craig Martell in Oregon

Ned Ludd on sat 1 jun 02

Oh no. Say it ain't so!

Dammit, Craig, without you and potters like you - in knowledge,
goodwill and generosity - Clayart faces slipping another notch
towards the dreaded gabfest level.

If you go, who'll be next? ... RR? Hank? Hendley? Banks? Clennell?
Nils? Dannon? To name a few of our best, IMO.

I know, I know.. the daily clayart deluge threatens to overwhelm a
fulltime professional potter, cutting into studio time. When it's a
choice between making pots and making Clayart, the latter has to go.
But I fear that in the long run we'll all lose if the best potters
among us leave! Does it have to be this way?

good luck Craig!

a very grateful Ned

Dang, I hate to see the old timers leave, but I can understand. After
awhile, it seems like the same stuff over and over again. People that
have been here awhile tend to tell the newer people "check the
archives!" I'm often torn between that urge and understanding that all
of the new people need to talk it out. Joe the potter Bennion was the
one that first told me about Clayart, by the time I got here, he was
gone, and I could only see him in the archives. I wish that the people
that leave would not be strangers and check back in once in awhile. You
give this place balance.

Jonathan -

I can understand why you want to sign off, but for me, personally, your
decision is a real bummer. Hopefully, the demands on your time will permit
you to sign on again some time in the future. Until then, I'll miss you.

Its been a good run for me. I have learned alot from all of you, and to all

the future and have shared their wisdom, friendship, fellowship, and
camaraderie, thanks!

To Jonathan Kaplan and all at Clayart:

I am sure that there are many many people who are going to be sorry to se=
e
you leave. First, Richard Aerni and now you. I can well imagine that you
have a great deal to do and not enough time (it seems to be a general
disease), but you will be sorely missed. Seven years--that is a long
history of helping others and contributing to Clayart. I just hope that y=
ou
and Richard are not setting a trend. I have been with Clayart for about
four or five years, and I have gleaned a lot of good information and made=

good friends. I think we are a wonderful group and, for the most part,
civil and generous. =

Thank you Jonathan for all your input, which will be available to all in
the archives.

I enjoyed meeting you at NCECA in Charlotte, and am sorry I will not get =
to
San Diego. It just isn't in the cards.

Take care, good luck, and I hope you will be tempted to come back some da=
y.

Fellow Clayfolk,

I will be signing off Clayart now. Have things to do, places to go. I
have been on this list since the days of Joe Molinaro and it feels
downright strange to be leaving. But leave I must. May be back someday
- but life has a strange way of intervening in things. I have enjoyed
this list, and the people I have "met" on Clayart - even the few
curmudgeons. It's been grand and I have learned much. But I must go.

Take care - and make good pots.

So sorry to see you go, John. Your input will be missed. Getting so there
are less and less old codgers (ahem) left to carry the tried and true ways
of the past on to the newbies.

Want to thank all who wished me a happy 90th birthday on FaceBook. For some
reason I could not respond as my page went cloudy when I went to type my

Have a good year.
