kiln plunger/switch

thanks for the responses....I think it must have something to do with the
limit timer. The last several times I have fired, the timer did not seem to
be working, but I did not fret as it is a backup safety thing, I do not rel=
y
on it. I will have to look into how it can be fixed...
Thanks everyone
Pam

You can thank the Paragon and probably Arnold for this. Paragon has
Dawson manuals online here:

http://66.111.110.43/Instruction_Manuals.cfm

Scroll down and pick the correct one you have. The exploded view near
the end of the manual shows the relationship between the shutoff cam,
plunger, and limit timer. I'm not sure but I think if the dial is
turned to any time other than zero, the cam is able to engage the
plunger even if the timer is not energized or functioning properly. It
is not until it reaches the zero position that it pushes on the cam
lever. I could be mistaken, but I don't think so.

Rock the sitter fix, Pam

I'm out...

Try not turning the limit timer all the way to the longest time, just turn
about 3/4 the way around the dial. I recall a kiln we used at school that i=
f
you turned the timer dial all the way to the longest time, the plunger woul=
d
not stay in. Moving the dial just a couple hours short of the longest time
solved the plunger issue.

That was it!!! wooohooo!
I habitually turned the limit timer to the maximum because I fire down and
wanted maximum time before the kiln turns itself off. So I moved to about
3/4's and pushed in the plunger, and it caught!
Bisque fire is happily in progress without me rigging some way to hold that
plunger in
