For those who may not be going to craft fairs every weekend or trying to
supply galleries I'll offer this take on Mel's comments.

When you go to a craft fair you will probably see lots good people making
lots of bad pots with ugly glazes. When you speak to them they will tell yo=
u
how they labored over this glaze, or that glaze, and how they swear by
this technique, or that technique.

You will still come away thinking, "Too bad he makes terrible pots."

On the other hand you'll meet someone who makes amazing pots. You'll ask
him how he does it and he'll tell you he just used the glaze at the communi=
ty
center and someone else fired his work. That he has no idea what is in the
glaze or why it looks the way it does.

And you might see that Mr.Sincere can't sell a pot to save his life while
Mr Community Center can't make enough of them.

In other words, while we potters may labor and sweat trying to create the
ultimate glaze the pottery buying public may not give a damn. "I like that
blue." may be from a slow fired kiln or it may be from a fast fired kiln.
It may be from 1000 tests or it may be from a bottle.

In the end does it really matter? (If your intent is to sell pots to people
who actually want to use them.)

take care
