has anyone tried to do this? any tips? need to take it apart,
someone destroyed the MDF base (table) to which everything is
attached. Got a new table/base from laguna, but I can't get the wheel
head off of the shaft/bearing assembly. the pulley came off the
bottom no trouble, but I also couldn't get the shaft to push up and
out of the bearings, so I think the wheel head needs to come off.
thoughts?
thanks,
jon

As a last resort, a stick of dimate will do the trick.
Best if done outdoors.

Jon,
Here's what the folks at Laguna told me ... after removing the bolt that =
=3D
tightens the wheel=3D20
head to the shaft, adjust the pedal so the wheel is turning slowly. While=
=3D
wearing some=3D20
heavy-duty work gloves, grab the wheel head and twist it in the opposite =
=3D
direction. It=3D20
worked! Might as well use the wheel's engine in your favor.

Jon:
There are two set screws attaching the wheel head to the shaft.
The lower one is difficult to see and get to due to the plastic housing
under the wheel head.
Could this be your difficulity?
It was for me the first time I removed one of these wheel heads.
The head came off pretty easily after I loosened both set screws.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Dick

Jon, the second, lower, set screw is approximately 1/2" to 3/4" directly
below the upper one.

Jon, here is some unsolicited advice:
As long as you are replacing the particleboard table on your
Pacifica wheel, soak that sucker in water repellant and then
give it several coats of varnish before installing it. That will
really help to prolong its life, so you won't be doing this
again.
The first time I had to remove the plastic covering on my
wheel, I gave the particleboard several coats of polyurethane.
It only makes sense since a potters wheel is made to come
in contact with water.....
My wheel is now 30 years old.
