Hi,

I was lucky enough to be given a small Cress kiln, inside dimensions 11"
wide, 14" deep, It is a Model K. ....115V, 20 amp. From what I've foun=
d
on the internet, it would go to ^6. It has a kiln sitter, and 2 dials,
going from 1 to 100. I'm not sure how that corresponds to "low, med, high"=
.
I have a digital pyrometer, so will experiment.

I'm looking forward to trying it with a bisque firing of some small things=
,
and perhaps I will finally play around with slumping glass. There wasn't
ANY room in my studio for it, but it's on the adjoining covered patio.

Any advice or comments from someone who has this kiln would be appreciated=
!

Hi Ann=3D2C=3D20
I don't have that particular Cress but I have experience with similar large=
=3D
r Cress kilns.=3D20

The numbers 1 to 100 makes percentages easy with 50% corresponding to mediu=
=3D
m.=3DA0 As I'm sure you know=3D3B how much heat you get from any percentage=
set=3D
ting will vary depending on the age viability of the elements.=3DA0 So expe=
ri=3D
menting with the percentage settings and your pyrometer will get you the se=
=3D
ttings information you need.=3D20

Some of the Cress models also have the words low=3D2C med and high printed =
al=3D
ong with the percentage markings. Low being 1 and high being 100.

I like these percentage controls better than the arbitrary Low=3D2C Med=3D2=
C an=3D
d High controls that give no other choices.=3DA0 Many times with larger stu=
ff=3D
I want to turn from low up to 10 % then 25% before hitting Medium etc.

=3DA0By working these percentage controls it is also possible to chart a=3D=
20
hold temp and/or controlled cool down schedule for glass annealing or=3D20
glaze effects.

A free kiln that fires up when plugged in is a good kiln.=3DA0 Even new ele=

nts weighed against free kiln is a sweet deal.
