Hi all,
I am looking for a glaze recipe that breaks well over texture for cone 5 =

or 6 oxidation. Any suggestions?

I like Tony Hansen's 5 part glaze, mixed with oxides, any combination of
cobalt carb, copper carb for ^6.

This web site, www.digitalfire.com, hasn't been mentioned recently on
clayart, but it is full of useful information, technical but written so
non-scientists, non-chemists can understand it.

I love using glazes based on John Hesselberth and Ron Roy's High Calcium =
=3D
Semi-
matte 2 (Raw Sienna, Spearmint and variations thereof) from "Mastering Co=
=3D
ne 6=3D20
Glazes" on texture. You can see examples here:

All the best,

Hi Jean=3D3B I use a lot of Mastering cone 6 Glazes and Micheal Baileys con=
e =3D
6 book over texture with a variety of oxides=3D2C they are developed to wor=
k =3D
in oxidation. What I found was that recipes with a lot of rutile in it seem=
=3D
ed to obscure detail so I don't use rutile. Interestingly the Majolica rec=
=3D
ipe contours well over texture if it is mixed thinly=3D2C though drips do s=

One of my favorites for glazing over delicate carvings and textures is a Ch=
=3D
un base=3D2C with colorants:
Kona F-4 feldspar 38.00
Whiting 14.00
Zinc oxide 12.00
Kentucky OM #4 6.00
Silica 30.00
--------------------------
Total 100.00
I use this with a small amount of rutile (0.5%) as a liner glaze for food-b=
=3D
earing surfaces. Try with small amounts of copper carbonate for a green ce=
=3D
ladon-like appearance=3D2C and with small amounts of cobalt for a delightfu=
l =3D
blue. Easy to make=3D2C easy to store=3D2C keeps well in the bucket=3D2C m=
ixes u=3D
p well after storing for months=3D2C and is a reliable=3D2C consistent glaz=
e. =3D
Is especially good over porcelain=3D2C OK over white stoneware. Haven't tr=
ie=3D
d it over red clay yet.
As always=3D2C test=3D2C test=3D2C test.
