Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with any of the videotapes on
"Throwing Big Pots" or "Glazing"? I'm thinking of purchasing the Stephen
Jepson tapes but thought I'd get some feedback first. TIA.

Yes, I bought those tapes and they were ok but I sure didn't like the camera.
The problem was that it was difficult to see where his hands where most of the
time and the camera was in my opinon, too far away for a good lesson in
throwing big pots etc. I came away feeling let down and not getting too much
from them. If you find something out there that is a good teaching tool,
please let me know.

I have watched the Jepson video on throwing large pots. If there are many films
you want to watch, you could make a long drive - 5 hours - to Oakland Community
College (OCC) in Detroit, MI and watch this and many other films on large pots
and on glazing for free! But it is a long drive. Is there a college in
Chicago that has tapes?
The Jepson video was somewhat helpful. He has another potter do many of the
demonstrations. I remember a plate that they made using slab and coil and
throw techniques most clearly. A large slab was put on a large bat and cut
round. Then I believe coils were added to the rim and thrown up to make the
plate rim. Overall I was disappointed with the film. I seem to want much more
than is ever shown in most videos.
I did enjoy the Robin Hopper glaze tapes. Everything was done technically
well, was well explained, and explained succinctly.
OCC is far away, but if you go for a weekend you could probably watch all 40-50
tapes that they have. Write me if you want more info.

Hello,
I have the Jepson video you mentioned, and it is a good one. He doesn't do =
the
throwing, actually. He has several different methods...and it is one of his
better tapes.
I also like the Robin Hopper tape =22Extended and Altered Forms=22 , =
Advanced
Throwing on the Potter's Wheel

I have many of these tapes. Stephen is an excellent teacher and I have
learned much from his tapes. I hope someday to attend a session at his school!
