an added idea.
several of the folks that did articles for our book
have mounted their pyrometer and or other electronics
in a metal coffee can (or other container.) with sheet metal screws away fr=
om the kiln.
in case of water leaking, or other problems; the
electronics are safe and snug and cool.
i have seen sheet aluminum used like a simple
gable roof over the electronics. or, use a simple
kaowool liner inside the can for total protection from heat.
i have also seen m-board kaowool pinned together to make
a heat proof box.
it is important to protect electronics from the heat of the
kiln.
and, always....use soft moving fans around kilns. an old box fan
on low, or a mounted oscillating fan on a wall.
( i have scavenged fans from an old de/humidifier machine.
that sort of thing. ) i have five in my kiln room. have them
all running low during a glaze firing of my big kiln.
lots of air moving. no hot spots...ever.
and, of course DANGER, DANGER, i have an entire back
wall of my kiln room covered with a 4x8 sheet of asbestos
material...fire proof. and, it is screwed into the back wall with
spacers. it just sits there...nothing flaking off. been there for
40 years. solid as a rock. and, my worry is not asbestos, it is
fire. and, since i do not smoke cigs, you will never see me
running an ad with some shyster lawyer suing someone over asbestos..
there is a clear relationship between cigs and asbestos. no one ever
talks about that.
