hi all--i watched steven hill's clip on ceramic arts daily a few days ago,
and decided to try his technique for applying slip to leather hard pots. i
have noticed other potters using this method and always liked it. the clay
body i use most is standard 266--which does have fine grog. although i
sieved the slip, i am seeing little bumps in places after putting it on
some pots--bigger than grog particles. any suggestions as to how i could
make a slip with my own clay that would work smoothly for this kind of
application?

thanks,
drake ash

Hi Drake,

I suggest you run your slip thru a fine mesh sieve (I use 100 mesh).

best regards,
Gayle
