Can you put a ceramic sleeve over the thermocouple, like we use on Gas
and woodkilns?

Several years ago I had another "idea" to make my own iron oxide. I
have been saving nails that I collect & put into a stainless bowl that
I keep covered with water. I have a nice iron w/specks wash to use
whenever I get the urge. Mike Gordon

I have a gas kiln that has an iron well casing as a chimney.

The inside sheds iron oxide in coarse specks that fall down on the
damper tile. It makes good specks in clay or glaze.

( I put a tile in the damper slot when the kiln is idle. I keep the
actual damper inside the kiln dry and safe. It is a sort of fiber
board with coating that I bought from Nils.)

Side bar: I have specks coming from the thermocouple. How do I prevent
it from happening? This is all very new to me from the Skutt
thermocouple. I have recently changed the thermocouple and I lose one
plate per firing from the unwelcome splatters of specks. (about 2-3
inches diameter)

I meant to call Skutt, but while I'm here...
