bat systems

Hi Jackie,

Well, first of all, I don't clean the ridged bottoms of the tile. I
insert it into the batt after putting in about a tablespoon of water.
The subsequent fine film of wet clay holds it in place.

Then, I take a sponge and clean off the top of the tile, not making it
really wet, but wet enough so that the clay doesn't just pop off.

In terms of throwing, yes, you can lever the insert out if you pull
too hard, but I find that I've learned how to cone with that in mind.
I throw up to 5 pounds of clay on these bats so they're quite useful
in my studio.

Good luck,

Hi Sojourner,

I bought full size Wonderbats six years ago and have been very pleased
with their performance and endurance, but if you're looking for a bat
insert system I prefer the one from Pottery Supply House that uses 6"
bisque tiles as the inserts. It is both fantastic and durable.

Rather than a wood based products, the bisque tile is a lovely surface
to throw on. The clay adheres well to the bisque and I leave the work
to dry on them directly; I don't cut them off with a wire. I dry them
on shelves made of wire grid so the bottoms of the tile are exposed to
air. So, the pots release from the tile when they're ready for
trimming/finishing.

You can order them through their site at pshcanada.com/tools, and I
have no affiliation whatsoever with them beyond being a satisfied
customer.

Good luck,

Thank you, Celia. I had considered a tile insert system, but I have a
propensity for dropping things and I feel I may be better off with someth=

that won't shatter (on top of losing the pot if one happens to be on it w=

Do you not find that the clay releases from the surface of the Wonderbat =

in
a similar manner? I was not considering the Versabat because that's a Me=

Thanks.
