question about burners for olympic 2327 gas kiln

Thanks to everyone who sent me a reply on or off list about the
burners on my olympic kiln. You've given me a lot of thoughtful
answers and a great place to start in setting up this kiln.

Rob asked about me going the Olympic kiln route. I decided to go this
route because I saw this kiln on e-bay and got if for only $450, the
brick is in like new condition and I was able to pick it up locally.
Even though I have read about people having problems firing this kiln,
I decided to take that as a challenge. The kiln has gas, air and a
flue like other kilns and I should be able to figure out a way to get
good firings out of it, just by observing and trying different things
until I have it dialed in.

Make sure that you use 19 inch diameter shelves (not 21") and place your
first layer of shelves 3 inches off of the kiln floor for the 2327G. Also
If you are on LP, the gas pressure coming to the kiln is 11 inches water
column pressure. If you are on natural gas, street pressure of 7 inches
water column is needed. Good luck.

For my 2728G, I am having a new meter put in that will boost
me from 7 water column inches to 55.3 water column inches. Plumber
says we can run 1/2" flexible copper over the 60' with the increased
pressure. I will have 456,000 btus to share with my house.

John,
The best advice I can give anyone about using this updraft design, is to =
=3D
read=3D20
up, of course, but also try to control temp with the top damper. I have =
=3D
been=3D20
very reliable lately in getting the top and bottom to match up. For examp=
=3D
le, in=3D20
bisque firings, when no reduction is wanted, I fire in a neutral atmosphe=
=3D
re, of=3D20
course. But I watch my cones, and when the bottom shows more heatwork, I=
=3D
=3D20
move the damper off, and vice versa, for the top. Pretty interesting con=
=3D
cept,=3D20
but it is very useful. My next purchase is going to be a dual digital pr=
=3D
yometer=3D20
to get more accurate readings of temp.

Oh, and an oxyprobe has been a FANTASTIC investment!!! Now I know my=3D20
atmosphere and I can use the readings as a gauge to tweak temp/firing rat=
=3D
e,=3D20
etc.

Best of luck,
Rob
