kiln shelf question

updated sat 19 nov 11

There are a limited number of shelves for the fully manual gas kilns
at NMSU. There's also a soda kiln, and many of the limited number of
shelves have been used in the soda kiln.

What would happen if I used those shelves in a ^05 firing? Scraping
gunk off shelves is not my favorite part of playing in the mud. I'd
also prefer not to have my pots permanently fired to the shelf.

TIA

Put "wads" under the pots if using a "salted" shelf.
Works for me!
I think there are recipes in the Archive.

I've been meaning to make my own in molds with calcium carbonate.
I've been putting teabowls on props upside down, in the anagama. But
I've been thinking about making spiked trivits like my teacher used,
and putting bits of shell or calcium carb on the tips.
