Some people were asking recently about where to get glazes tested. Barbara
Howe from Ft. McMurray had posted some addresses last April. (Wonders of
wonders - finding things again!) I checked with her about re-posting it:

>In regards to the addresses - please go ahead and post them - I got them
>off Clayart a couple of years ago. I've used the lab in BC - you do have
>to let them know what you're looking for - they then proceed with the
>standard leaching tests. It can be quite costly, depending on how many
>you're having done. As I recall, it's $40 a sample, but they give you a
>bit of a deal if you're running several tests and they're able to do the
>same test on all them. What that means is that if you send in 5 samples,
>looking for barium in one, copper in another, manganese in another, it
>seems to be a bit cheaper if they just test all of them for barium,
>copper, manganese, etc. They're great people to deal with, and if you're
>in a hurry will either Fax you the results, or I believe they'll also
>e-mail them.

>I can't speak for the second two on the list, but I have used the
>services of Elemental Research Lab as it's closer to me. I sent them
>samples in the mail and had the results via e-mail in less than a week.
>It costs $35 per piece (as I recall) but they gave me a slightly better
>deal for having the same metals tested on all pieces. Well worth the
>cost and effort for the peace of mind it affords. They were very helpful
>- great to work with. I expect for US you'd obviously be better with the
>one in PA. Worth a phone call to check the details.
