.
I'm looking at changing some of my base glazes a bit. I have used MC6 Lico=
rice but find it a bit to glossy for my work and would like
to adjust it to more of a satin finish. Is that possible or should I start =
over with a new recipe for a satin black.
I do mostly functional work so I need something that is very stable.

I have been a lurking member of clay art for many years, I can't thank you =
all enough for sharing so much knowledge

Hi Jen,

If you are going to adjust MC6 Licorice, I don't believe it will be as
simple as adding a little more clay or silica. I ran an Ian Currie
grid of that glaze. (A Currie grid varies the amounts of clay and
silica in each of the 35 glazes across the grid.) I didn't discover
any satin matt versions of the licorice glaze in the grid.

You can see the grid here...

If I was looking to alter it, I would try reducing the amount of frit
3134 in it. Of course this will also alter how much silica is in the
glaze so when you discover a glaze you like, you'll need to test it
for stability.

John Hesselberth has a page on his website of glazes he has tested for
stability. One is called charcoal satin matt and may be what you are
looking for or serve as a better starting point. Here is the link...

John Hessleberth recently posted a stain black glaze.
You can find this and other stable glazes on his web site:
