There's nothing better than opening up a kiln and finding the whole loa=

that is better than you'd even hoped for!
This was a glaze load that had odds and ends in it, gathered up ware car=
=3D
t
sitters for an art fair this weekend, items that haven't been high enoug=
=3D
h
priority to make it into the kiln for the last year, or three. In fact I=
=3D
=3D20
had been toting around one piece of bisque for 11 years. Tiles that had =
=3D
not
found an order, little pots i have been throwing in the wheel. I just gla=
=3D
zed
as much as would fit in the kiln. i was fast and loose with the glazing,
using glazes that were already mixed, vowing to not mix another batch for=
=3D
this end of season firing.=3D20
Opened the kiln and When what to my wondering eyes did appear?!!!!=3D20=3D2=
0
Delights unforseen.
it's funny isn't it? you can work with the same glazes year in , year out=
=3D
,
then one day you fire to another temperature, or slap them onto some of
that other kind of clay you have been toting around forever, or combine =
=3D
or
overlay them in new ways and suddenly that ol nag horse you've been coax=
=3D
ing
along turns into a ripsnorting stallion or whinnying high spirited mare =
=3D
of
a glaze. I just want to hug all the pieces that just came out of the kil=
=3D
n.=3D20
It's nice to have some nice new eyegrabbers for the booth, sure, but the=
=3D
real wonder of this experience is that it breathes new life into us! No
matter how many years you lift and slam and throw and pug;pulling gifts o=
=3D
ut
of a toasty kiln reinvigorates you, enlivens your heart , swells your
breath, makes you smile, keeps you going.
