Hi Barbara,

Do your glazes have custer spar in them?

Hi Barb=3D2C

from what you tell us it doesn't seem to change things when you change the =
=3D
bisque temps.=3D20

If you are using the same glaze batches and getting inconsistent results th=
=3D
is does seem to narrow the clay as suspect.=3D20

How much do you buy at a time.=3DA0 Does the supplier have a lot number for=
e=3D
ach Batch that would tell when and from which lot the raw materials came fr=
=3D
om to make the clay body.

What materials are in your clay body. Could it sometimes be variations in s=
=3D
omething like the new Custer Feldspar which seems to be giving fits to some=
=3D
folks.

Since Cinco Blanco is a cone 5=3D2C and even though you were getting away w=
it=3D
h firing at cone 6=3D2C if an ingredient changed you could be now over firi=
ng=3D
to the point of off gassing at higher temps.

Try your glazes on another white clay body=3D2C or mix a small new batch of=
s=3D
ame glaze and fire it on the body you suspect.

let your supplier know there may be a problem=3D2C perhaps they have had ot=
he=3D
r calls as well. At any rate they need to know. Our relationship with our s=
=3D
uppliers must be seen as symbiotic for win-win.

I also have a full load pin-holed.

I have changed my firing ramp, but I don't know if this brought on the
problem of the Custer Spar or merely the problem of a changed firing
schedule.

B-mix clay and a glaze with Custer Spar. I used to fire to close to
cone 7 - ramp hold with a controlled cool with good result (except the
top shelf) This month I am under deadline. So I did a cone fire 6
(instead of ramp hold) and hold for 8 min.Cone pack read 6 and I
thought I can save 2 hours. Nope, I just re-fired (another cone fire 6
with 12 min hold) and the pin holes didn't go away.

I am going to China and source a factory and get a new set of
problems...just for a change
